Benchmark Description for SPECfp™_rate_base2000: SPECfp*_rate_base2000 is a compute-intensive benchmark that measures the floating point throughput performance of a computer system carrying out a number of parallel tasks. The benchmark consists of a suite fourteen floating point workloads developed from actual end-user applications. System throughput is measured by running multiple copies of the benchmark simultaneously with the number of copies typically set to the number of logical hardware cores seen by the operating system. The performance score reported is a measure of the throughput of the system measured in jobs/hour. Higher score indicates better performance.

Benchmark Description for WebBench: WebBench 5.0 (128-bit US version) is an industry-standard benchmark for Web server software and hardware. It uses PC clients to send Web requests to the server under test. It generates performance results by incrementally increasing the number of clients making HTTP 1.0 GET requests to the Web server; the result is a curve showing the performance of the server under test. The peak of that curve represents the peak throughput of the server. WebBench reports results in both the total number of requests per second the server handled and its total throughput in bytes per second. The charts here plot the total number of requests per second.

Benchmark Description for SPECWeb™2005: SPECweb2005 is the next-generation SPEC benchmark for evaluating the performance of World Wide Web Servers. As the successor to SPECweb99 and SPECweb99_SSL, SPECweb2005 continues the SPEC tradition of giving Web users the most objective and representative benchmark for measuring a system’s ability to act as a web server. In response to rapidly advancing Web technology, the SPECweb2005 benchmark includes many sophisticated and state-of-the-art enhancements to meet the modern demands of Web users of today and tomorrow. SPECweb2005 consists of three separate, distinct workloads, each with its own submetric: SPECweb2005_Banking, SPECweb2005_Ecommerce, and SPECweb2005_Support. While the individual submetric scores do indicate the total number of simultaneous user sessions the server can support, the overall SPECweb2005 metric for a compliant result is the geometric mean of the three submetrics, normalized to a reference platform score. Accordingly, a SPECweb2005 score of 100, for example, would indicate the same overall performance as the reference platform. A score of 200 would indicate an overall performance that is double that of the reference platform, etc.

Benchmark Description for Fluent: Fluent is a commercial engineering application used to model computational fluid dynamics. The benchmark consists of 9 standard workloads organized into small, medium and large models. These comparisons use all but the largest of the models which does not fit into the 8GB of memory available on the platforms. The Rating, the default Fluent metric, was used in calculating the ratio of the platforms by taking a geometric mean of the 8 workload ratings measured.

Description for SunGard Application: SunGard ACR is a financial services application. Per SunGard, “SunGard Adaptiv Credit Risk (ACR) provides a total, real-time credit risk solution for counterparty credit exposure aggregation, global limit management, credit risk analytics and collateral management.” This workload analyzes a large portfolio of client assets and generates a credit risk evaluation. The more quickly the workload completes, the more quickly the user receives the evaluation, so improving performance can improve productivity. SunGard developed the Adaptiv Credit Risk workload and supplied the computational engine and financial data.

Description for Black-Scholes: The Black-Scholes kernel workload is based on a financial modeling algorithm for the pricing of European-style options. After its publication in 1973 by Fisher Black, Myron Scholes, and Robert Merton, its impact was enormous and rapid. The benchmark consists of a kernel that implements a derivative of the Black and Scholes technique. SunGard developed the code, which uses a continuous-fraction technique that is more accurate than the traditional polynomial approximation technique. The test produces the time, in seconds, the server took to complete the workload; lower completion times are better.
