The event opens with a welcome address from Tristan Wilkinson, UK Enterprise Director, Intel. Nigel Woodward, Head of Financial Services, Intel, then takes over the proceedings and hosts a ‘fasterCITY’ panel consisting of senior executives from key financial organisations including:
- Ian Mortimer, Chief Architect, Merrill Lynch
- Peter Moss, Global Head of Enterprise Systems, Reuters
- PJ Di Giammarino, CEO, MiFID Joint Working Group-IT
- Ray O’Brien, Head of Corporate and Transaction Banking Technology, HSBC
- Duncan Paterson, Managing Partner, Cygnet Consulting
- Kevin Houstoun, Co-Chair IT, FIX Protocol Ltd and BIDRoute
The panel looks back on 2007 and discusses the realisation of MiFID in Europe and its effect on the market, the low latency arms race for ever greater speed of execution and an enlightening exchange on risk management in the wake of the subprime credit-crisis.
The panel also discusses the disruptive and enabling forces that technology uses to enable new market practices and disintermediation of traditional roles. It then comments on the challenges that firms now face when dealing with infrastructure developments such as quad-core, multi-core and in-silicon.
