Sail Intel 08

Thursday 12 July saw Sail Intel 08 on the waters off famous Cowes Isle of Wight in the UK. 33 boats, over 200 guests and a strong financial services contingent lined up for the 3 race series. Groups of boats were entered by BT, VMWare and DELL which made for interesting competition across the fleet and team dynamics with colleagues. The Capital Markets Company, eager to defend their 2007 trophy, contrary to recent practice in financial services exercised prudent risk management, by sponsoring the event and entering 3 boats!

This year some great sailing skills were displayed – which played out across the fleet with the usual experiences and varied stories being created to take home and populate bar conversations for another year. With Dave Barrand of Intel most deservedly having to be picked out for the award for most heroic activity – ask Dave for details!

The Capital Markets Company strategy held out – and their lead crew delivered a clean sweep of first places. Despite a somewhat practised crew, a great result in field with a number of keen players. DELL Global Intel Financial Services backed up with a safe second and after navigational challenges in the first race, Intel Financial Services a close third.
